Geek Monthly magazine
Speaking of magazines, a new one has emerged in the world of print, Geek Magazine. Heard about it from Eric (did I get that right?), a freelance writer/journalist at the local 2600 meeting. Maybe this site will get a mention in an article there. Who knows.
Geek magazine is very new, which is why I have yet to see it in any bookstore around my area. It’s no Wired, but still looking forward to seeing it in the stands.

It’s life imitating art imitating life. Geek Magazine (or GM, heh) was created in the movie Fee Enterprise as a stand-in for Cinefantastique, the magazine one of the writer/producers (the one played by “Will” of Will and Grace) worked for. He has now gone on to start the real-life mag of the same name.
I picked up the first issue, flipped through it, and then tossed it.
A lot of the stuff in there was old news. Its the reoccuring issue when ever someone tries to do a print magazine about online culture. How do you find content that people don’t already know?
Wow. This seriously puts a kink in the release of my upcoming monthly magazine “Dork.”
I keeeeeed. I keeeeeed.
Any other complaints, Matt, aside form the “trying to catch Internet lightening in a bottle” element?
Matt, did the first iss have the Orion Slave Girl cover? (The one seen in the movie.)
Yeah Geek definitely is no Wired. I don’t think it’s hard for a print magazine to report on what’s going on online. It just shouldn’t be blog style content, but one step ahead. Wired recently had an interview with the LonelyGirl15 crew. Stuff like that I can see working in print.
Z., yeah it hurts my chances for my L337 Magazine also.
Glenn, I agree on your comments about content.
Honestly, I didn’t spend much time with it. All of the short filler articles looked like they may have been lifted directly from places like boingboing. I started reading the article on Battlestar Galactica, realized that it had been written several months earlier before the new season had started and just gave up on it with out going any further.
I’m finding that I’m just not much of a magazine kind of person, so may be you guys will get something out of it. I definettly suggest giving it a look over before buying though.
Oh, and Church, it was the issue with the guy from The Office (american version) on the cover trying to look like James Bond.
