A lot of Mediocre Tour 2007 videos up

You can find them on Doc Pop’s blog. They’re all great, and now I’m even more anxious for the next Nerdcore show in New York City.
But the best one might be this:

Play native chiptune formats on your iRiver!

I am so glad I got an iRiver instead of an iPod (and ogg vorbis ftw).

Speaking of no Nerdcore love from Myspace, they rejected Ytcracker again.

Hi,
We apologize, however you were deleted due to the fact that you are a known spammer, and have created a multitude of profiles in the past. Your account will not be reinstated.
Thank you,
Myspace Music Support
Myspace.com
I know spam is a big problem with websites, but come on. Forget the fact Ytcracker isn’t a spammer anymore. Who do these people think they have on their site? Almost every Myspace Music member copies and pastes their promo crap on all their friends’ walls. You know, the thousands of them who they know.
Couple that with the amazingly ugly glitter gifs thanking their new online friends for “the add.” It’s like we actually went backwards to the Xanga days of the 90’s. Next thing you know they’ll start allowing Javascript to disable the right click with an alert(’Don’t steal my images!’); and people will start bitching about the lack of e-props.
Seriously, though

There are other places online which can spread the Nerdcore-ness. Rhymetorrents, Nerdcorehiphop, and Hipster, Please! all get love from publications and other big name websites (when is my time to shine?
). Myspace is good for only one thing, spamming your friends. While it still helps the scene, these other places can grow and become the definitive places for the latest, in uhh… Nerdcoredery. Myspace is not going to offer that chance.
I might have mentioned this before, but there is the Rhyme Torrents BBS and The Nerdcore Ning Network. Two great places to get in the know and connect with the Nerdcore people themselves.
Still no Nerdcore love from MySpace
March 26th, 2007
Remember the Myspace campaign to add nerdcore as a music genre? As far as I know, the spot between Neo-Soul and New Wave is still missing.
So if you have a MySpace, please throw in one of these images to continue spreading the word:

And if you want, you can get the original letter here and below:
Dear Myspace,
In 2000, MC Frontalot coined the term Nerdcore Hip Hop, creating the foundation for geeks and nerds everywhere to pick up a microphone and start rapping. In the last 7 years, Nerdcore has flourished into it’s own distinct style of music.
2006 has been the largest year for Nerdcore yet, and with mainstream press from Newsweek, Wired Magazine, Spin, XXL, NPR, and MSNBC, as well as accolades from websites such as Slashdot and Boing Boing, 2007 looks to be an even bigger year for Nerdcore.
This year will see more Nerdcore releases than ever before and Nerdcore’s largest audience yet. Two new documentaries, Nerdcore For Life and Nerdcore Rising will be released later this year, and have already generated considerable buzz in both the music and film circuits.
Despite the popularity of Nerdcore music, MySpace still does not offer it as a genre. Haven’t nerds suffered enough already? There are Nerdcore metal bands, Nerdcore rock bands, and, obviously, Nerdcore hip hop artists on MySpace that can not properly be searched under the term “Nerdcore”. Given that MySpace has surprisingly specific genres such as “Christian rap”, “Shoegazer” and “Screamo”, it is a shame that Nerdcore has yet to be added.
Consider the following:
The top 8 videos on YouTube tagged with “Nerdcore” have generated 1,581,216 combined views.
There are currently 2,640 profiles on MySpace with “Nerdcore” in their profile.
There are several websites, blogs, and even online channels dedicated solely to Nerdcore.
Beefy is a virgin.
Nerdcore Rising’s profile has 1,285,674 MySpace friends.
The creation of a Nerdcore MySpace genre could be what will finally gets Beefy laid.Relevant links include:

http://www.myspace.com/mcchrisIn an attempt to encourage MySpace to update it’s genres, I am taking part in a letter writing campaign. It is our goal for Nerdcore to finally get the recognition it truly deserves.
And besides, when else will anybody ever ask you to label them as a nerd?
Let’s not give this one up.
Nerdy Magazine issue 1 really close
March 23rd, 2007
As we say in the magazine biz, “it’s CRUNCH TIME!”
Nerdy Magazine seems to be in good shape and coming along nicely. According to the blog, content seems to be coming in. And it looks like The Dark Prince might need a few more.
So hopefully you guys can help chip in and jump start what could be a good Nerdcore zine. Even if you do not want to write, you can still help out proofreading and editing. If you think you can help out in that area, get in contact with him. But please help only if you know for sure that you can put in the time. It’s not a lot of effort, but the reliability is important at this phase.
Let’s get his name right, folks!

This man is Ultraklystron, aka Karl Olson:

Let’s say it together now, Ul-chra-kleye-stron.

He is not:

From Krypton

Strom Thurman

Or Ultraman

Just trying to help clear the confusion.
New visuals and the Nerd Search bar
March 19th, 2007

Hello, fellow nerds. Thanks to guilt from site neglect and a cup of caffeine, Nerd Music’s visual theme has been upgraded. The title bar now has the pixelated drop shadow, as well as other little visual elements added here and there. They are subtle changes but I think it’s a nice improvement on the overall feel of the site.
The biggest upgrade is the Nerd Search bar at the right side, right below my regular site search. The Nerd Search engine is a new Google Co-op engine mentioned in a previous post. With this not only can you search my site, but other well known Nerdcore sites on the internet. It also covers other non-Nerdcore websites we might be interested in, such as Slashdot.
Much thanks to Z. and ChurchHatesTucker for their contributions with the custom search engine. If you want, you can volunteer to help. Or drop me an e-mail and suggest a site to include in the search. And any feedback on your experience with this search feature (as well as the new theme) is appreciated.
8 bit dissertation in the works?
March 16th, 2007
There are blogs, and then there are splogs, also known as spam blogs. These are keyword stuffed blogs with BS entries to try and game the search engine results.
So when I got a Google alert about another blogspot site, I was skeptical. But 8bitdisertation is legit. It’s a blog, mostly for writing down thoughts and collecting links on the 8 bit music genre to help the writer’s dissertation. Adham, the owner, explains:
Fundamentally, the research will try to capture a snapshot of 8bit/Chiptune in the year 2007 and determine weather or not the genre an important artistic step in music capable of becoming a viable genre within the music industry, or a nostalgic waste of time written by geeks with nothing better to do (scathing!).
He also writes about genre theory, and what it takes for new genres to grow and succeed. It might be an interesting one to read and benefit from, both 8 bit genres and Nerdcore.
Nerdy South mixtape coming soon
March 14th, 2007

According to ytcracker.com (didn’t even know the site existed), the Nerdy South label is gearing up to release a mixtape. For free. So get those internet pipes cleaned and sparkling to download this one when it gets released.
It would be nice to hear more Spamtec Crew tracks again. The premise is just too funny and good to let die. That and more 8-bitness like NES. But who am I to tell them how to do this? I’ll just start cleaning now.

This has got to be one of the best examples of nerd music, or nerd music gaming, or whatever. It’s damn cool, seeing a Guitar Hero controller hooked up to the Commodore 64!
This is the product of the Shredz64 project. And according to the site, it uses the PSX64 interface, which is kind of like an adapter to use any Playstation controller into the C64. The game is of course, custom software.
Hacking, low bittage, hardware, and music. Yes!
